The Manacorda Family
The Manacordas were a family of notable citizens of Moncalvo in the Savoyard Piedmont between the 15th and 18th centuries. The Manacorda family was known for their notarial activities in Moncalvo, enjoying a certain prestige and honor among the local community.
History books often mention Angela Manacorda, daughter of the notary Francesco Manacorda, who married the standard-bearer Francesco Bernardino in 1659. Angela demonstrated attitude in managing the family’s estate and in leading her family after her husband’s death in 1671. The Quercia Rossa farmhouse was one of the properties owned by this prestigious family.
MONCALVO
The Smallest City in Italy
Moncalvo is one of the most important villages of Monferrato, located between the cities of Asti and Casale Monferrato, was the very first capital of Monferrato.
The village of almost 3.000 citizens, called the “Smallest City in Italy”, is sorrounded by beautiful hills heritage of UNESCO; this is the place where history of the medieval city encounter charmfull country landscapes. Here the food and wine execellences of Piedmontese cusine attract turists all over the world. The main square of Moncalvo named “Piazza Carlo Alberto”, was built over the ruins of the acient medieval castle, that in XIII century, was the home of the Marquises of Monferrato. From the bastions of the acinent castle, there is a 360° point of view over the hills of Monferrato and is possible to see at the horizon the famous mountains: “Monte Bianco” and “Monviso”. In the historic centre there are the old theatre built in 1878 and currently in use, the museum, churches and historic butiques of medieval period. Moncalvo is also famous for the events offered during the year, like: the “White Truffle Fair” that is held the last two sundays of the month of October, or the “Fair of Monferrato Cusine” organized the 3° weekend of June or “The Fat Bull Fair” that is held the 2° Wednesday of December. In 2019 the city has got the “Orange flag of The Italian Turing Club” a special reward assigned to the italian villages with prestigius historical, cultural and environmental heritage.
