Our Story

La Quercia Rossa is a farm with 7 hectares of land in the middle of the Basso Monferrato. La Quercia Rossa has been run by the Reami family for 3 generations. Matteo, his family and his team are dedicated to the care of the farm and guests of the La Quercia Rossa.

On a surface of about 4.5 hectares the farm produces high quality hazelnuts of the variety Tonda Gentile Trilobata I.G.P.  The hazelnut used by pastry chefs for high quality products all over the world, is characterized by a round shape of the fruit, an excellent aroma and a sweet and persistent taste. Part of the harvest is sold directly to guests of La Quercia Rossa and used for the production of Quercella, our chocolate and hazelnut chocolate cream.

Production of Piedmontese hazelnuts and wines

On the 1.5 hectares of the vineyard the farms grows the typical vines of the region: the Barbera d’Asti DOCG and the Grignolino d’Asti DOCG. To create a cuvée with Barbera, and to produce a white wine, La Quercia Rossa has recently planted Cabernet Sauvignon and Cortese vines.

There are about 50 fruit trees. Most – including cherries, figs, apples, pears, plums, peaches, apricots, persimmons and quince – are located in the orchard next to the farm. The fruits are used for the production of homemade jams and marmalades.

Two vegetable gardens offer seasonal vegetables in large quantities that are used exclusively in the kitchen. There is also a small production of oil, very light and of high quality.

Cellar

As in the traditional country houses of Monferrato, the cellar was built underground, entirely dug into the tufa, with a vaulted ceiling that supports the manor. The bunches are de-stemmed and crushed on the courtyard.

The must then is poured into the old coated concrete barrels which function as a natural fridge, to begin the fermentation.

After the fermentation the new wine is left to rest in steel barrels, sometimes refined in oak barrels, and then bottled directly in the farm.
